the only thing that i'm concerned about

Posted by Travy-Trav on

will be if Julian's smoking will effect his vocal range. i mean idc that he DOES smoke, but that will wreak havoc on a singer's performance. there were some of his recent live performances where it was clear that he wasn't as good as he used to be. but then again he did only make first impressions in 2006. idk i just hope he doesn't become like ozzy :

C'mon stop worrying about his drinking problems, his smoking, his weight WTF?
He's one of the GREATEST artists ever, and in my case the greatest of them all in my generation...
People talking about these matters make us all fans look bad, if you want gossip or to talk about their private-life you should be following Paris Hilton or Britney Spears,
seriously, just enjoy the music...
I agree , we shouldnt be talking about this it seems sort of patronising . He may of gone a bit overboard at gigs sometimes but what singer doesnt, he looks very young for 31 so i doubt hes got a problem plus hes to intelligent to have a drink problem

it'll be hard to enjoy the music when he can't sing.
he said he would lower his DRUG and ALCOHOL intake. which prob means smoking too
what? if he stopped drinking that would be crazy lol. have you ever seen his live stuff? i think i have seen one or two videos where he is actually sober.. the rest of the videos he is pretty well bombed haha

Got to thinking and I'm kinda getting concerned if the fella's lost some of their edge. I'm hoping they don't do a bunch of soft love ballads

it's not a thing about rusty sound, i like it too.
but the ...hm, i don't know how to express in the best way...range, span of his voice will become much narrow, smaller, he won't be able to sing ize of the world, for example.
that is, if he continues smoking.
of course, nothing is beyond all doubt.

Julian naturally has a deep voice to begin with he shouldn't really try to hit too many high notes when singing ala Jim Morrison. With his style of singing smoking shouldn't really effect his vocals. Now if he was in an emo type band than yeah he would be screwed.
yEAH , it's just his voice, you know it's different on the album and live and that's all , you can't make it sound exactly the same.
I don't know if I'm alone on thiis but I actually like Julians voice better live, I like the raspy kind of sound. There are too many male performers who try to sound too feminine.

i agree till some point...smoking will effect his voice for 10 to 15 years...but i guess i won't give a fuck about it then.

btw, smoking is much, much more dangerous for female voices (and not just voice, but everything).
i know.
i'll quit it.
soon.

I think that a lot of the sound he achieves on the albums is the post recording stuff they do to his voice. I know for a fact they used a filter to make his vocals sound a lot more fuzzy and raw on Is This It?, and I think he does get hoarse during shows because he's trying to reproduce that sound naturally. The smoking probably doesn't help though.

I think Julian's smoking and drinking has influenced his voice for the best. One of a kind!

i dont remember where i heard it, maybe on hardtoexplain.org, but i thought he quit smoking and drinking a while ago.

unfortunatelly ~ Rock singer's life never stay too long~

I'm worried about Julian's voice in general. He sounds amazing and incredible on the albums, but in a lot of the concerts I've seen on YouTube his voice sounds so strained and hoarse. Its clear that he can't handle the stress of touring on his voice well, it basically breaks down his voice until it gets so hoarse and groany.

I think that he meant he would tone down his drinking for the band, not sure if he still smokes, plus i thought his singing was a lot better on the FIOE tour, the songs from FIOE are a lot harder to sing ie YOLO, Juicebox, Ize of the World

Actually, Jules has toned down on all that already. He did either just before or during the recording of FIOE. He's smart enough to know that he could fuck over his career.
There's a video I watched where he says he's going to tone it down for the sake of the band and the music.
Got a link?

I am concerned about more than just Julian's smoking.

oh he did? thats good.
