I agree, the US has a bad taste in music. I definitely like the grunge titans like Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. Not too high in Pearl Jam, like Stone Temple Pilots, etc. The others like Theory of a Deadman and all of that stuff are, like I stated earlier, wannabes and people who grew up with real grunge see through the facade for sure. Although I'm too young to have grown up during the early 90's :D

No doubt.. haha I have been thinking about moving for along time. What is the best alternative other than the US.. and would they accept a US castaway? haha Maybe all us Stroke fans should take over a state and form our own culture. We could find the state with the highest ratio of Strokes fans and then all migrate there. :D

usa plays that grunge stuff over the strokes cuz its safe, the poppular stuff is very safe its all the same paramore,fall out boy, ect. they all sound the same and nottice they all sing the same exact way- that screaming angry dying cat thing- the strokes actually care about melody and julian ACTUALLY sings and thats not what angry little american teens relate too this generation has been brainwashed by mtv and lil wayne and others alike. it makes me a bit embarassed to be an american somtimes.

So this what is preventing the Strokes from traking off? I wonder why it has such a foothold in the US?

Why didn't post grunge take off in the UK? Was Nirvana big in the UK like in the states I wonder? If not maybe it's because like you said grunge has a kind of country or white trash element to it that the UK kids didn't embrace.

I'd probably venture to say that post-grunge is the most popular brand. I call it corporate rock or "corprock" if you will :lol:

It's the same thing as pop music, same thing as country music, just with a few metal-ish guitars and a somewhat more harsh vocalist. This is mainly why I enjoy the indie scene because it's a lot more creative. No music industry tampering for the most part :roll:

Yeah.. this is what my favorite radio station turned into. That's like 90 % of what they play now... when I was younger seemed like they played a much much wider range of stuff. Is post grunge stuff the most popular now?

Hmmm, well if by "alternative" you mean indie (since alternative has a ton of definitions), then I would probably say the three-headed monster of the early 2000's being Daft Punk, The Rapture, and The Postal Service as being groups that kind of electronified the indie scene. But if you're talking about mainstream alternative, I think it's just a holdover from the post-grunge era. Bands like Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, 3 Doors Down, etc. are those that kind of grew up listening to grunge and they're a bunch of wannabes :roll:
