The 80s

Posted by Daenerys on

I accidentally posted his in the wrong section of the forum, so here it is again. Mea culpa, guys :/

After listening to several of the songs off of The Strokes' new album Angles (especially "Machu Pichhu" and "Two Kinds of Happiness"), I can't help but noting the similarity between their new stuff and the sound that characterized a lot of Anmerican music during the 1980s. I f*cking love it, personally. What do you guys think?

i hated it at first, but it grew on me. I love it. 10 songs are not enough! i can't get enough of the Strokes!

Yeah I've thought their music has always had an 80's sort of vibe to it... since the first album- reminded me of a lot of stuff like U2 Boy, October and stuff. I love it. Yeah definitely more in Angles, you can really feel a fresh sort of 80s John Hughes film type atmosphere- you can hear infuences from all over the place, but they've made it their own too!

for the songs and heard from 80
l Two Kinds of Happiness song reminded me a lot
I move. is curious.

It makes me think of the 80's future more than the 80's itself--as if we were in the 80's imagining what music would sound like in 2011; Angles pretty much nailed it. Or maybe it's just the future I envision.
