PHARRELL PRODUCING THE FOURTH ALBUM: FOR IT OR AGAINST IT?

Posted by dcnrt on

Personally, I am against it. I don't want Pharrell to produce their next album, because it's as if it would be taking away from who they are. What are your thoughts?

Comentarios for this Forum Topic

AGAINST ALL THE WAY.
That'd be another disaster as the 'Phrazes For The Young,' in my opinion!

AGAINST.

Modern hip-hop consists of a sample with meaningless lyrics droned over it: it's almost fake now. The Strokes' fourth album should be produced by a rock label.
As if any of you know where the strokes are heading.
They're headed for the 11th Dimension of course or more realistically: Las Vegas night club crooning, I'll say.

To true but you can always use this site as a detour from anyone catching you with porn. Just say you were on the strokes forum and theres the posts to prove it. Well more masterbation for me.
Ha!

I got so exited by these forums i had to masterbate

As if any of you know where the strokes are heading.

I'm personally against it, but I heard Pharrell was popular with a lot of people. I guess he's still doing stuff, just not as publicized. If The Strokes want a chunk of what's supposed to be a large Pharrell fan base they should do it (let him produce album four). Personally I want to hear more leftover ideas from the Nigel Goodrich or whatever sessions.

honestly i wouldn't reply unless i had the facts

im against pharell 1000%

To be honest, I don't care who produces their 4th album
as long as it sounds good

very much against
Don't give a shit. So long as it sounds good.
Can't argue with that!

all respect to pharrell but him producing a rock album??? besides he would screw with the strokes music style anywayz

I think a collaboration would be a nice treat. Pharrell is good at what he does, but for him to be the producer of the the HIGHLY anticipated fourth album would be an absolute travisty! I believe if this were to happen, it would be taking away what The Strokes are to their fans. I'm against it for the new album, but in any other case I'd be for it.

im not sayin i love the idea. but this stuff is completely up to them. so why would they choose someone they dont have a good relationship with. they must have some sort of relationship with him that they like and feel will produce good music. so id say theres not much to worry about. the strokes are pros and theyre not dumb plus they arent tryin to be famous. gotta trust em.

i too think that pharrell shouldn't produce the fourth album ... pharrell will take away the uniqueness of the band's music ... the band is better off producing the album themselves, or have someone else produce it for them

Don't give a shit. So long as it sounds good.

For it, it would be pretty awesome hearing something completely different and watching them experiment with another type of sound. Hey Pharrel isn't bad, it could've been Timbaland or someone else... our boys are smart, and they will make us happy. :) :D

I think I'm against it. I was surprised though...I recently saw an interview with Pharrell for the first time. I respect him more than I thought I would. But....I don't think he can quite capture what we want from The Strokes. I guess it just depends what sound Jules, Fab, Nick, Albert, and Nikolai have in mind for album 4....

'glossy' is right. We don't want that.

AGAINST OF COURSE!!!

CONCLUSION: 99% = AGAINST :] :]

So Pharrell, you fuckin' golddigger, fuck off! And Casablancas & co: Think twice and take over music world !

against

that what I meant with pharrel = a golddigger. I bet he wants a bit of hisself in the songs of The Strokes and that's not what I want.
They are fine without him.. it's not as if The Strokes need more publicity? No they don't. It's not as if their music sounds bad? No they don't.

sooo conclussion.
pharrel shouldn't produce any indie rock bands, especially NOT The Strokes. (:

He's a producer! Producing big shots like Britney Spears and Madonna is all in business.
Like all producers, you record with good artist as well as the bad ones (and the bad ones better pay up) and I know Madonna and Spears paid up big time by asking him to produce their album.

I also said he rolls with the great
I doubt him and Britney Spears and BFFF.
i don't know how that goes, so much inconsistency in your posts.

i'm against it. indie music is for indie music.
Independent Labels have been known to strive for minimal influence on the artist they represent, avoiding the artist-cultivating behavior of many major labels. Artists represented by Indie labels have been known to be focused more on producing music than becoming wealthy and/or well known.
Jesus Christ! Why do I let this thread bother me so much?

Look at David Kahne, He also produced with Sugar Ray and Cher (fucking commercial!)
But he's also worked with The Strokes and Paul McCartney
NERD and Jay-Z are the shit!

I also said he rolls with the great
I doubt him and Britney Spears and BFFF.

I'm really pissed about this one. Read his bio and you'll see he produces for idiots like 'Britany Spears'. Please don't get into that list of idiots, Strokes ! :x

@air_port

you will be disappointed!

"In 2001, The Neptunes produced Britney Spears' single, "I'm a Slave 4 U" gaining their first world-wide number one..." fuckin' britney spears!

N.E.R.D, The Neptunes, Jay-Z, Madonna, Justin Timberlake,... = THE SAME STUPID COMMERCIAL SHIT

Don't go black when it comes to Rock, when it comes to Strokes. Look at The Block Party = CRAP

Go back to your roots, Julian & co! And add some "Heart in a cage" to it

Fanks

Wow
You are wrong and stupid
Could you be ignorant too?
ignorant? wtf?

think about it. Pharrel always wants to produce with the fine famous artists he never brings up new artists (not that I know off) that why I said. Pharrel = a golddigger. He is a producer yea, makes his own beats yea, so what? aren't all the producers in for the money?

Why does he want to produce a band that doesn't have to do ANYTHING with his own style of music? Why'd you think? So he can get more people listening to HIS music and get more famous not just in his style of music but also in the indie rock music or however you want to call it.
You just proved my point
He's not a gold digger because he has plenty of money. And yes, all producers AND musicians, in the end, do it for money.
Why did he pick an artist that isn't hip hop? Maybe because he also likes rock. He plays the guitar and drums for NERD. And how would producing other peoples music be making it for more people to listen to him? They aren't even mainstream. He's very popular in the indie world. Why else would he pick Santogold and Julian to make My Drive thu? Because he respects them and their music.
Why don't you take a look at his Bio and you will see he's no sell-out or prick. He rolls with the great, not idiots like Pete Wentz and Britany Spears.
AGAINST !

With Pharrell = No Revolution, No Hope, No Rock, Nothing.

Come on you lazy asses, Mr. Casablancas & co, don't go commercial, don't go fuckin' hiphop, don't go black.

Take over music world, shock it. Show us LEATHER jackets! Burn the c(r)ap.

Jeezus!
Totally Agree, don't go commercial. Just do what you did with the other records.

Nooo!!! cmon! im against it! it would change so very much the strokes sound! i personally dont like the idea
and its not really about getting popular...its all about making real music!

If I were the band I would be smart about it, and let Pharrell produce a single. Then they could see how it is, and how well things pan out with it. It would give them a chance to see how well it sales, and the general popularity of the song.

AGAINST. My Drive Thru was not that great, and while the song from the Lonely Island CD was funny, I don't want the band going any sleeker than their last album. They really need to work with someone like STEVE ALBINI who will let their sound keep the warmth of their first album, while allowing them to play music from any era of music.

IMO The Strokes first three albums are phenomenally exceptional and each consecutive one had a slightly different musical change to it, than the previous one. Nothing drastic, yet it was modernized just enough to keep their unique sounds.

I heard the song Pharrell produced with Julian Casablancas and I don't like it. It's too fast, too poppy, it's over the top with itself. IMO Pharrell's music is funky-type.

IMO The Strokes have changed since their first album, but that doesn't mean they need to jump off a cliff for the sake of trying something new. Hell no.

So I am, Against it.

Who started this rumor? cause i'm so convinced its just load of horseshit

Against it. IMO a Pharrell produced The Strokes album isn't a Strokes album.

AGAINST he will fuck it up

definetly NOOOOOO.
it will change their sounddd...
and although, my drive thru was good, it wasn't julian.
hopefully if they do end up going with pharell, julian will use his sutbbornness to keep their 'strokesism' in their 4th album

im so against this. shit.
i thought this album couldnt be anything less then FUCKING AMAIZING.. but since i heard that i started having second thoughts.

oh god..

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!! There's no way I want him to produce. They'll probably put a song with Jules rapping!

Good opinion Black Ty, but I can tell from your use of diction (the word "dope") used several times that you are probably into more of the rap, hip/hop scene than anything else. I think that it is true you want bands to change, but by change I don't know if changing their entire genre would go over well with anyone other than the Grammy voters and people that like only main stream music, NOT WITH STROKES FANS.

im for it... lets face it pharrel is the best at what he does he has writen so many hit songs, he has turned so many artists careers around to make themso much better. i know the strokes are like nothing he has done before but do you honestly think that he or the strokes would put out an album that might not be good. if he produce the next album i think it will be as good as "is this it" mabey even better, ethier way i just want the next album to be some soid guitar pop songs

FOR IT!

I don't think a real music fan would want their favorite artists to keep putting out the same album over and over with the same sound stemming from the same inspirations.

Change is the only constant. Let the artists grow and continue to shine across broadened horizons.

I think "My Drive Thru" is a dope song, Pharrell made it suit himself, Santogold, and Julian. They were all at home on that track. That alone should prove that he is capable of producing this album.

However, being a Hip Hop fan first and foremost, I am not usually a fan of one producer producing a whole album. (unless its the RZA) I like a bunch of different collabo's on one album; gives it that mixtape feel. And then again, Pharrell did well producing Common's latest album...so I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I think it's ignorant of some of you to ask "what does Pharrell know about The Strokes or Rock music?" He's in the business of making music, I think it would be pretty obvious that his music collection crosses all genres and is more expansive than any of ours.

Hip Hop itself, which started off with looping records and using those samples to form beats, is probably the one genre that is open to so many other kinds of music because they started out simply borrowing from other artists, adding a beat, and rapping over the mix. I know that I myself have been introduced to many other artists just by listening to rap and reading the linear notes to see who they sampled.

Pharrell may be pigeon-holed into the hip hop genre by some, but he's no DJ Premier, if the Strokes let him produce the whole album, fear not, I'm sure the final product will be dope and not feature a guest appearance from the likes of Rick Ross or I dunno...Gucci Mane.

That's my piece.

Peas.
