My Drive Thru

Posted by samham on

So this is my first time on The Strokes forum. I've been a big fan since about 2004 and I've been to a few concerts. Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on the collaboration. I thought it was awesome to hear Julian in something new. It gives me something to look forward to hopefully in 2009?

I want the strokes to get brian eno.

My Drive Thru.. haven't listened to it enough times to pass verdict..
but my feet are tapping along and i think that's a good sign.

I think I'd rather see someone older produce this next album. Seeing as The Strokes ARE the co-founders of the neo-garage movement it would be nice seeing the likes of Noel Gallagher (tehe..kidding) or someone EQUALLY vital to the modern rock era work with them one this one. Someone that would keep their music sharp and not top 40 chic. I for one do not want a One Republic album as the Strokes fourth hit.
It is a new age of music and Pharrell is perfect to take the boys in that direction. And I do not know if I have said this before or not but he is also a total hottttttttttttie.
What makes the Strokes great is that they don't conform or adjust to a so-called "new age of music", they create music that works for them and their growth, not for the growth of hip-hop entrepeneuers looking for money. Nothing against Pharrell, but The Strokes are The Strokes...let them be. You seem to think that the only good thing the Strokes have produced is [i]Is This It[i] (which is a ridiculous claim in itself) since you have said that ROF and FIOE both sucked. Well if there were any chance of The Strokes creating a 4th album similar to their first who would be the more likely producer to lead them there: Gordon or Pharrell? Gordon, obviously.
you got me

nice to see you have your priorities in the right place

Pharell won't end up producing it though....I just can't see that happening
I can... Pharrell is a producing genius so I am betting this will be a amazing album.
However great a producer Pharrell is...he will never be even half the producer Gordon Raphael is for The Strokes. Album #1 is the only proof necessary.
yeah he also produced room on fire... and like I've said, that bleeeeeeeeeeeew.

He's a one trick pony, definitely not a genius
Ah come on now, Room on Fire didn't suck at all. FIOE, well we all know how terrible that is.
ugh, I actually thought FIOE was better that ROF but that isn't saying much at all.

I am really excited to see where Pharrell takes the band.
My Drive Thru is an interesting song but interesting Julian is better than no Julian I guess. I'm a little nervous that Pharrell has been in the news linked to the band, since his musical style doesn't seem to have any business merging with Strokes music. Still, I believe, as all Strokes fans should believe, that Julian and Co. remain the geniuses that they are and are smart enough to choose producers/co-workers wisely. Pharrell's involvement is just rumor, that's all.
If they are such geniuses then why has their last two albums sucked so bad? Pharrell is a genius... and a hottie.

edit: plus it is a fun song

It's nice to dance to.
