Personally, I am against it. I don't want Pharrell to produce their next album, because it's as if it would be taking away from who they are. What are your thoughts?
NO WAY. Have you seen that song he made with snoop dog where he is just making a clicking sound with his mouth. Did he just sit around and actually think about that because I have been doing that all of my life. All I got to say is drop that suggestion like its hot. Pharrell is just more of a hip hop type of producer he cant even sing and is all up in the songs and all up in the videos.....woops Suge knight moment. He would probably want to be the 7th stroke. The strokes are doing just fine with who they have worked with and it should stay that way. I think Pharell justs want to get some more publicity cred because he hasnt made a hit song lately and wants to ride some coat tails wink wink
i just dont want the strokes to change.
im not really sure if im for it or against it........
as long as they dont change!
pharrell produced the hives and they didnt sound different.....
and the strokes are smart so im sure they woudnt do anything bad or drastic.
what does a producer even do, anyway? hehe :D
seriously, though, the strokes picked him for a reason. i'm sure they know what they're doing. and if not, well, that's not exactly pharrell's fault, is it?
what's the big deal!!?
pharrell is not doing anything without the strokes permission
he's not making any musical decisions! he's just going to push some buttons here and there, and move some microphones...
i absolutely against it..
why??pharel just can will make some of dirty sound for our ears..his sound like a trash!!
i bet on you guys..
Very against it, Pharrell doesn't know a thing about the Strokes nor does he care about them. He's just interested in the money not the sound. The Strokes are very influential on the revival of garage rock and Pharrell will take away the grungy garage sound that we all love and turn it into a full on pop album.
Agreed, i think that my drive thru is all pharrel influence that julian or the strokes need. But if they are looking for change, how about Josh Homme? Seeing how hes apparantly doing the Arctic Monkeys newie. We'll have to see how that goes but i like the guy.
Having said that Gordon Raphael is the guru, and ultimately the best choice.
I wouldn't be against him producing a separate ep or something like that but the 4th album? Please no! If it ain't broke don't fix it.
well i can say that i am not for pharell producing there album but, i just talked to a friend of mine and he told that in the new maxim there was a small write and it said the strokes will be releasing an album in nine months and pharell has been named the producer. so if its true hopefully he does it well and doesnt change there sound to much.
pharrell + the strokes = whaat???!!
noooooooooo I'M TOTALLY AGAINST!!!!!
i dont like the idea of pharrell producing the 4th album. simply because he is part of n*e*R*D and they are rubbish
FREAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AGAINST IT.The strokes should have there own style like they always had.NO HIP HOP GUY SHOULD CHANGE THAT.
But then again.
Where is the proof that Pharell may produce the album...?
Is this just speculation or fact?
I WANT PROOF!!! haha
I totally agree with what you just said,
The Strokes may lose their identity as a band.
I think the Guru should produce it hahaha :)
I hear you guys. I Like Pharrel and I FREAKIN LOVE THE STROKES!!!! but cmon man, thats like kanye west saying he wants to produce the next metallica album! I mean Pharrel has talent, dont get me wrong, I admit that...but I like the strokes the way they are...i like that they dont sound like every other band! I think Pharrel might unintentionally F#$% up what makes the strokes awesome!
Definatley AGAINST IT! If he produces the album The Strokes' music would sound completely different and I don't think lots of the fans won't like it. That's just my own perspective
i prefered the demo tape sound i liked the raw sound of it , pharrell is only in the business for the money fuck him.
No one does something they don't like. That's the reason Pharrel joined the industry, because he loves music.
And inside every musician, they all do it for money.
i prefered the demo tape sound i liked the raw sound of it , pharrell is only in the business for the money fuck him.
I'm for it!
For the Strokes to have such a professional producer like Pharrel can really boost their popularity around the world. Pharrel is not going to change their sound. He's just going to make it sound alot more professional insted of a demo tape sound.
Pharrel is not stupid, he knows what he is doing when it comes to production in the music industry and he has alot more experience than that Gordan Raphael guy.
Having Pharrel would be a smart business choice for the Strokes.
im for the production of maybe give or take one or two songs, but the whole album.. no thanks. im not one for too much change. i like things in small doses and i love the old strokes.
COMPLETELY against it!!!!! Pharell might be awesome in his own band but he will sound terrible if he joins the strokes I will throw up if suddenly the fourth album comes out and HE is in it. I am a big fan of the strokes and I'll do anything to support their ideas but this is a disaster and a confusion to rock music!
I am FOORRR it. I know, I know, crazy...but I personally like the idea. Whatever the strokes do I will like. i admit, I like the older style better so it doesn't make much sense...but I think it could still be cool.
i dont want to hear any glossy stuff
they should just record the album in there own cool way
pharrel is all over the place he sucks! and his work with the hives sucked!
i like pharrell, he's different when it comes to hip hop, and is extremely original, i think they should at least hear him out, and if they dont like it then they wont use him
against it :!:
I can't believe Strokes fans would want Pharrell to produce ANY of their stuff.... There's no way.... nope
The whole thought is disturbing.
I've thought about it and i just dont think that he has what it takes. You guys are so unique with your vocals and sound and i just really dont think that he could hold on to the great unique sound that you guys create. Please dont do it.
if you heard the song "my drive in" it features both pharrell and julian and the song was pretty good. on the other hand, i would like to see the strokes making more original music, thats why like them so much. so this is gonna be a toss up
[I desagree with it because he is nothing to do with the guys
2. Gordon Raphael: while I liked many songs on First Impressions, that album lost some of the magic of the first two. Returning to Raphael could seriously recapture their genius. He knows what works for them, because he's the one who got them going in the first place.
1. Rick Rubin: While choosing Raphael would be solid, I think that Rubin is the man to choose. If the strokes want to change in a good way, Rubin has time and time again proved successful at that. What Rubin did on Blood Sugar Sex Magic was absolutely incredible. Rick Rubin is pure music genius, and that's exactly what the strokes need.
Stay away from Pharell. Just listen to the converse commerical he did with Julian to know how much he would suck as a producer of the strokes. He is a top hip hop producer, but he should stay away from guitar/garage rock.
Nigel Godrich (of First Impressions of Earth) would be alright, but i don't really like what he did with that album. Still better than Eno or Pharell though.
Let me tell everyone something. i have contacted pharrell many times through a friend in Virginia. I have no reason to lie. The situation is that pharrell is taking a break right now from music for a change and hasnt made plans to start back up untill next year. One of the projects IS the strokes BUT, he has said he would not do the whole album. And possibly only one track. This should satisfy both sides of the field on this situation. He also said that my drive thru was a hip hop/rock song for converse that had nothing to do with the strokes, pharrell, or santogold as seperate artists. it was a collaboration of 3 different styles. And that what pharrell would be doing on the strokes album would be the strokes. not the strokes with pharrell. His production would be nothing that strayed far away from the other songs on the album. Thats all i know but i thought i should say something
I'm For it. Jules and the strokes arent stupid and they know what people wanna listen to. I think it'll be very interesting to see what happens!
It is difficult wait something accurate from the Strokes. You know as the 3 last CDs contains few other likenesses among oneself (?). And Pharrel already produced various bands of rock without put in a drop of R&b, hip hop, etc. Why with the Strokes he should be different? He is a great productive! On the other hand, I think I should be wrong: maybe he will transform the band a more commercial group and that, yes, remain a big shit! But we can't criticize the capacity of the guy without see the results.
sorry about' the dead of english language... I'm brazilian and I don't know speak so well, but I hope you understand. see ya!
i totally agree with you
pharrell at exit- really good sound.
don't be such importuners :P, maybe it'll be fresh and interesting.
at the end, the strokes knew what were they doing from the begining, they had an idea, a clue, they followed it and you liked it. why do you think it's gonna be different now?
exactly what im thinking.
im neither for or against it. i love both pharrell and the strokes, and i love the song my drive thru. i personally think a little twist in their sound would be cool but i dont want them to sound hip hoppish. as long as pharrell doesnt take anything away from their style, then im okay with it.
Does anybody know if it is actually happening?

it depends.i think if it sounds like jay-z's "give it to me" track, it'll be fine.pharrell knows what he's doing;
even though a lot of his beats have been pretty repetitive he's a good musician.i just hope it isn't as dark as the the last one with the exception of a couple of tracks.i hope to hear a duet with jules and albert too. :D

I'm not sure. I mean, Pharrell does know the strokes. he's a fan as well, so he probably wouldn't want to change the thing going on... so don't just assume he'd throw a hip hop vibe into their songs just because he's part of N.E.R.D. Jules and some of the other Strokes will still be making songs.. well actually im not really sure what producers do anyways lol
against. the strokes are known for their rock sound, the influence from Pharrell might turn them a little bit r&b, or something that really isnt them.

:o wow... i never ever thought the day would come when the strokes would even consider someone like Pharrell producing the next album. HORRIBLE IDEA!!!! The Strokes are so vintage and that's what i love about them. i understand musicians want to reinvent themselves but damn... hip hop + the strokes = disaster waiting to happen. i really hope they stick to their roots b/c that's what we fell in love with. i'm not even going to lie... i do like some pharrell songs but i'd rather keep them seperate from my strokes... the strokes' sound is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
ack I think it would be a horrible idea if he produced it. That dude kind of bugs me. A few years ago he produced some stuff with International Noise Conspiracy and it just killllllled them for me.
I am against it true like most of you say williams doesnt seem like he knows too much of the strokes and the music they produce so i hope that they will reject his offer but in defence of jules i dont think he did it for the money i mean he says in interviews that he doesnt like to lable music he just calls it music and i think the tune might of caught his ear and then decided to work on it i mean no one knows why he did it but i personally dont think he was in it for the money and i thought my drive thru was pretty catchy
Against it totally
I'm not against his music, I just don't think him and the strokes collaberating is a good idea
I trust whatever decision the Strokes make.
