new TV on the Radio album is great!

Posted by knowing you on

I don't know if anyone else here likes this band. I kinda liked their last album (basically just "Wolf Like Me" and "I Was A Lover") but this new one is brilliant. And even if you don't like it there's no way you can't appreciate someone with an afro/beard combo as good as this

Young Liars is great, and yeah, their two albums up to this have been middling at best. But I really think this is fantastic. I think it's incredibly consistent, not a bad song on there, and in the end sometimes that's just what I want: good, fun, catchy songs, and this has 11 of them. Maybe someone who has been paying closer attention to their development might be disappointed, I don't know, but this was a really nice surprise for me.

The New TV on the Radio album is not great, and I am disappointed with them for the third time. First, I bought Desperate Youth... just as it was released. I didn't like most of it then and I still can't hear why the hype started. Desperate Youth... was a horrible follow-up to the amazing Young Liars EP. Anyway, what came after Desperate Youth...? Return to Cookie Mountain. Not only was it better, but it earned the band even more hype. "Wolf Like Me" was covered by a numerous amount of artists and rightly so -- it is a great song. They've also released an EP with a Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover on it somewhere along the line, but it doesn't matter because it's not worth picking up. Dear Science sounds nothing like what TV on the Radio has done so far, but it's still only another mediocre release with good production.

I don't enjoy where they take most of their good ideas. That's the ONE thing I wish they did differently -- hooks. Some of their songs plod along without changing notes or even throwing an extra section in... and only a few of them are good. However, TV on the Radio is one of those bands where you start to see the true genius of the songwriters as they release more. None of their releases are good all the way through (I would give Young Liars a 4/5, but the others are closer to 3/5).

My preferred tracklist:

Young Liars (all of it)
1. Satellite
2. Blind
3. Young Liars
4. Mr. Grieves

Desperate Youth...
5. The Wrong Way
6. Staring at the Sun
7. Dreams
8. Ambulance

Return to Cookie Mountain
9. I Was a Lover
10. Hours
11. Wolf Like Me
12. Blues From Down Here
13. Tonight

Dear Science
14. Dancing Choose
15. Red Dress
16. Love Dog
17. Shout Me Out
18. DLZ

I posted one in the first post under the picture of Kyp

Could someone please post a link to the album? I haven't been able to find it anywhere...

oh god this is so fucking good. I can't stop listening to it.

My bro got me into TV on the Radio. Sadly the only album I have is Return to Cookie Mountain

Wow, that argument was hilarious. Anyway after listening to the album three times, I can say with some authority that it is the album of the year as of today. Though on a side note, the new KOL is really good too. Crying, Golden Age, and Family Tree are amazing. But so are the rest of the tracks

Dave Sitek should just produce every album every band does in future. His production on these last two TVOTR albums is perfect.
he's always done excellent work for the YYY's, so I wouldn't expect anything less from him whilst working on his own baby.

Has Sitek produced any other bands? I am too lazy to start searching google.
He did Antidotes by Foals and that Scarlett Johanssen album too.

The only other guy who's capable of something like this is Dave Fridmann. And maybe Eno.

I've never met someone so smarmy and condescending that listened to goth rock and barfed up foam before... LMAO

There's a first for everything though I guess.

See.. still in denial.

Go smoke some more weed and listen to your trance music and complain aobut FIOE some more. lol
I know, but I just find it so hard. I have this undeniable urge in me to point out how fucking stupid this guy is.

I'll just leave him at it, he'll learn sooner or later.
Yeah... you keep claiming that but you have nothing. While I point out what an idiot you are. I'll do it again.. watch:

Why are you here?
I know, but I just find it so hard. I have this undeniable urge in me to point out how fucking stupid this guy is.

there is just obviously no winning, though. I still think he is fucking with us.

You listen to goth rock and then say you matured and are above anything? LMAO

I know, but I just find it so hard. I have this undeniable urge in me to point out how fucking stupid this guy is.

I'll just leave him at it, he'll learn sooner or later.
yeah that's exactly what happens, word for word.
you're above this. I think I may even be above this.

I think we should just ignore from here on out.

pinky promise?

Still in denial..

yeah that's exactly what happens, word for word.

That's what Knowing You says every time he is faced with reality...

Knowing You: "FIOE sucks!"
Knowing You:"FIOE sucks!"
Knowing You:"FIOE sucks!"
Knowing You:"FIOE sucks!"
Knowing You:"FIOE sucks!"

Me: "why are you here if you hate FIOE?"

Knowing You: "You are an idiot!"

i can't help but laugh at all of this. I mean, it's just so surreal.
all of your threads sucked to begin with, though.

sooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrry
Yes.. because I praised a band you hate on their own messageboard..

But I am the troll.. LOL

Theres' that brilliant logic of yours again.

Are you a fan of a nother band or somehting? Is that why you are here trolling all the time?

Knowing You and Celtic thunder too?

That's the only explanation for this level of insanity.

You said you only hang out here because you have a lot of friends here from "the old days".. when you said you were "too immature" to appreciate good music. and that you grew up..

Were you stoned? that would actually make a lot of sense. I am sure most the people on here are stoners. That's the only way you can be a music lover these days.
...exactly.
hahahaha.. so you admit you don't like the Strokes anymore. are you crazy?
oh jesus fucking christ.

We still haven't cleared up the little issue of how old you are? I hope you're really young because that would help explain this a little bit.

There's another logic master. The guy who hated FIOE but hangs out here every day. LOL

Geniuses.. the lot of em..

But I loved the album and am a troll for defending it.. yes.. Genius level logic here.
Logic.. hahahaha

Like hanging out on a bands message board you claim to not even like.. like that kind of logic?

LOL

Then you call me a troll? Yes.. you are the logic masters..
duuuuuuuuuude please find the post where I said I didn't like the strokes. I swear if you do I will leave this place and never return.

Man, I dare you to make less sense.

Logic.. hahahaha

the first time I heard Staring At The Sun I immediately fell in love. I haven't heard but two songs from the new ablum, but I am fo sho diggin them.

Tunde's voice is one of a kind, and like I said, the live show is amazing. Nothing really compares.
If he is he's the best fucking troll I've ever come across
I know, right? I mean he ignores all logic, most facts, and anything making the least bit sense, purely to argue.

Staying on topic, it's such a good album. "Family Tree" is one of the best songs of the year
"""unless it was a major festival, no the two bands haven't played the same venue at the same time."""

you've disputed/insulted/made yourself look more like a douchebag than I ever could.

I am going to file suit with the rest and just try to ignore you... I feel dumb everytime I engage in conversation with you.
You act like TV on the Radio is a folk group or something.. to suggest they are so different they can't be compared is ludicrous.

Maybe they haven't toured together BUT have they played at the same at the same venue together for somekind of festival? That is close enough..

And congratulations on knowing more about music than me.. lol The music scene is a wasteland. You are too dim to know you should be embarrassed by that fact...

I just had to make sure Knowing You understand that they weren't on the Strokes level before he got too excited and trashed FIOE again..

And they aren't different.. they are both rock bands.. I think they might have even toured together, not sure though. I thought someone told me that..
can you please tell us how old you are. the strokes and TVOTR never toured together. I know more about teh strokes therefore I am a better fan than you, so I think you should just leave this place.

And saying that these two bands are the same because they are both rock bands is the same as saying new found glory and sonic youth are the same. you're lack of actual musical knowledge baffles me, especially when you constantly attack and belittle everyone like you were fucking Alex Ross or Smokey Fontaine.

but more importantly... how old are you?

Thanks for clearing that up and putting me in my place. What would I do without you?

how do you even manage this. it is like comparing smashing pumpkins to nirvana... they are anothing alike.
