The songs that you don't want to admit to liking

Posted by strokesnerd79 on

Everyone has 'em. Make a list here. I'll start:

I never even knew who this guy was before but I heard the first song recently and while I'm not thrilled about it in it's entirety, I like the beginning of the song. Maybe it's because he has an incredible voice, it's smooth and deep and strong:

Feels Like Tonight - Daughtry
Home - Daughtry.
Glycerine - Bush.

I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of them all now but I'll post them as they come to me, and you should all do the same.

i kind of agree. only for me its, my coworkers play it so goddamn much at work i either force myself to like it, or go insane.
haha, I can sooo relate..I just wind up tuning their shitty music out..I am good at that, thankfully..ya know, I love em as people, they are great (for the most part) and make the job fun, BUT, they have THE WORST taste in music!! Ugh!!! Whyyyyyyy must this be??? sooo fucking annoying..oh well, they are good people other than that..I am slowly but surely turning them on to some good shit, especially the guys..for some reason, they are more apt to liking good music than girls(not to generalize people, I know there are SOME girls who have good taste in music too)..actually, some of the guys already have some good taste, so I gotta give em props there

Don't hate because something gets popular. That's lame. If you weren't aware, The Strokes are pretty mainstream.

In my world... The Strokes are not mainstream. Although I understand in the music world they are...it's just that none of my friends have ever heard of them. I'm surrounded by people with shitty music taste, and come the day The Strokes tour again I will be attending solo! ha.

I can't help but jam out to:
Dreamstreet
Hanson
Backstreet Boys

....anything that I listened to as a kid. A younger kid, I suppose I should say, seeing as I'm 16.

oh and also Michelle Branch!

Don't get me wrong though... I listen to them only on occasion, just for fun, and in no way appreciate them for their "music" or proclaimed talent... ha!

Just Dance - Lady GaGa

Even thinking about downloading it.

-It-

... ...

dude me too! i totally agree!
like i said i hate paramore.
I just can't help but like that one song
So I've always had this vendetta against paramore.
I never wanted to ever like a paramore song.
"oh look, you're wearing a paramore shirt? POSER!"
but *sigh*
i actually like that 'new' song of theirs that was on twilight.

Paramore - Decode

PS- Twilgiht is a movie i don't want to admit to liking.
I hate paramore. I hate the video for that song, the lead singer dances as if she was listening to hard rock music, but it is Paramore, which equals POP. And the parts when the camera shoots her face, is disgusting, she looks like she's about to cry. it's kinda paradoxical... God, that girl annoys me.

Poor MCR thought THE BLACK PARADE was going to be their SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND, but apparently its sales were much less than expected. They even had the Pepper-like uniforms.

oh yeah, the whole sentence-long song title thing... that songs kind of old anyway, though.

That title just reminds me of that one song "It's not a scene, It's an arms race" Fall Out Boy always has the wackiest titles

The Kill [?] - 30 Seconds To Mars
Nine in the Afternoon - Panic! At the Disco

I'm sorry! I can't deny it anymore!
Paper Planes by MIA
Though I loved her before she because all popular.
That's also what happen to the Moldy Peaches and Kimya Dawson.
Don't hate because something gets popular. That's lame. If you weren't aware, The Strokes are pretty mainstream.

fifty - sixty by Alizeé.
I LIKE THE GODDAMN MUSIC. I am admitting it. Yet it also makes me cringe. I am admitting that, too. How about you let me "expand [my] comfort zones" without getting harangued, yeah?
'embarrassment' to whatever degree is the point of this thread, so if you have a problem with people admitting to this why are you even participating? Everyone on this fucking board has become so unnecessarily serious! I miss the days where you could make fun of the strokes and whatever other band/artist without people whining "YER NOT A REAL FAN OMG".

Go drink some hot soya milk and take a nap.
Who said it was supposed to be a personal attack against you? Calm the fuck down. It's not that I have a problem with people getting embarrassed, that's why I created the thread: to create a humorous way of laughing at insecurities, in this case, how music affects certain people and their emotions, and how all of it interacts with people, generally speaking. I didn't, however, create this to poke fun of people at random. That would eliminate the entire purpose. Think, please.
Personally, I don't get why people always say something that is very sentimental and raw is usually "embarrassing". You aren't the first person who has said something like this to me. All he did was let out how he felt, he didn't try to hide it in the form of more complex lyrics. Maybe he went a little overboard, but I think it's respectable because at least he had the guts to do it. Maybe it makes people uncomfortable, but so what? I mean, that's how change starts, by expanding your comfort zone. But if someone is really that embarrassed by listening to work like Oberst made when he was younger, well, I suppose they shouldn't listen to it all.
