The Strokes' Julian Casablancas reveals classical inspiration
Watch the singer talk up his solo debut here
Julian Casablancas has spoken about the classical inspiration for his new solo album.
The Strokes frontman will release his solo album 'Phrazes For The Young' this autumn while the New York band are on continued hiatus.
And now he has said that he is trying to blend styles from throughout history, in a new video teaser interview at Juliancasablancas.com.
He said: "I'm trying to capture the catchiness of modern music but at the same time the power and seriousness of classical music and older music. In general, the goal is to inspire. I guess that's what art is supposed to do."
Talking about the differences in working solo as to with The Strokes, he continued: "With this record I'm able to chase down any crazy idea and to do what I want, so it's fun, but I wouldn't want to do that with this band, it's more collaborative, it's a group effort. So I like them both differently.
Casablancas goes on to list his favourite bands of the moment as Beirut, Telepathe, Dirty Projectors and Beach House. "There's more than five years ago," he said. "I don't know if there were that many bands that I loved, but now I feel there's ten great bands, at least."
