River of Brakelights sounds like a commercial?

Posted by Max Fischer on

Could you Team Defect guys do me a favor and listen to River of Brakelights and listen to the melody in the chorus.. does it sound like an old commercial to anyone else? I can't place the commercial but it's right on the tip of my tongue.. I think the song said something about a hero or needing heroes or something... I think it might have been a cologne commercial or something haha It sounds so similar it makes me wonder if it was intentional... like he did it for some reason...

Is this what I was thinking of? haha

"Holding Out for a Hero" appeared in Lethal Weapon 2, as the soundtrack to a television commercial for Hero Cologne, seen in Martin Riggs's trailer at the beach.

Who was saying that Kell? Your friends?

"Holding Out for a Hero" from Short Circuit? Maybe. Anyway, it's just a fucking song, man. He's trying to make it sound good.

When Julian says the part about Demolition man and them liking commercials in the future.. I think that's what he was going for in River of Brakelights by using the commercial melody in there... he was trying to capture that nostalgia and make a statement too..

Listen to this interview from yesterday.. about the 1:17 mark.. I think it's really odd he would just bring up a cologne commercial out of the blue like that.. I think that was a hint..

Also, listen to like the 3:15 mark and he talks about commercials there too. I think what Julian did was make a bunch of little songs connected together in all his songs on Phrazes.. this could tie into the "Voltron" concept as well..

i'v only had my album a few hours but i remember loving it! asswipe!
